AEO success depends on consistent application of specific structural details across every page — missing even one element (a question-formatted heading, a properly calibrated answer block, correct schema implementation) can mean the difference between winning and losing a featured snippet, making a disciplined, repeatable per-page checklist genuinely valuable rather than relying on memory or general awareness of AEO principles.

The 12-item AEO page checklist

Section 1: Heading structure

  • [ ] The primary target question appears as an actual H2 or H3 heading, phrased naturally as a real question, not an abstract topic label — see question-based headings that win answers.

  • [ ] If the query involves sequential steps, a numbered list with clear, distinct steps is used, matching the natural step-by-step intent.
